Next stop: The future
This full-size mock-up of a futuristic metro train shows that public transport could be about to take a big step away from the noisy, worn-out metal cages of the past.
Driverless and with a sleek, attractive design, the Siemens Inspiro concept train is 30 percent more energy efficient and 20 percent lighter than conventional metro trains. The concept could well find a home in the growing market for rail transport, with German transport consultancy company SCI predicting that urban rail will grow faster than high-speed and conventional rail, albeit from a smaller base.
